qmeme_1402794554408_363The Cyclones opened the 2014 season a day late but that did not deter the players. Octavio Acosta pitched brilliantly. He gave up 2 hits, 4 walks, 1 hit batsman & 1 earned run while striking out 7 over 4.2 innings. He was in line for the win, but he did not pitch the required 5 innings.

The Cyclones began the game offensively looking like last year’s team. Yankees Starter David Palladino threw only 5 pitches in the first inning. However, the Cyclones 2nd inning showed that Gamboa is no Donnelly. Over the next 3 innings, the Cyclones would score 2 runs per inning. The Yankees would get 1 run in the 5th, but it would be all. The Cyclones would score 2 more in the 7th while the Yanks would get 1 in the 9th.

Gamboa also showed that the team will play with more aggression. The team executed a few hit and runs, stole a base & even took risks on the base paths.
