qmeme_1404612717980_972No that score is actually right. The Cyclones lost 18-2. With a crowd of 8,241, on hand, MCU Park was not as packed as the Cyclones hoped. Many people were on hand for Seinfeld Night and the Keith Hernandez Magic Loogie Bobblehead.

The Cyclones disappointed on the field from the get go. Taking on the worst team in the NYPL, the 3-17 Aberdeen Ironbirds, fans were expecting to see the Cyclones do well. However, for the 2nd straight night, the Cyclones fell to the worst team in the NYPL.

Casey Meisner was on the mound for Brooklyn and Aberdeen jumped on him early in the Top of the 1st. Jay Gonzalez reached on an error by Amed Rosario. Gonzalez stole 2nd before Justin Viele hit a sacrifice bunt that moved Gonzalez to 3rd. Alex Murphy singled in Gonzalez giving Aberdeen a 1-0 lead.

Aberdeen added more in the Top of the 3rd. Gonzalez singled to left, stole 2nd, moved to 3rd when Viele flew out to center & scored again on a Murphy single. Hector Veloz went down swinging. After that, the night’s ugliest debacle of a play occurred, when Jamill Moquete popped the ball up to shallow right. Chavez misplayed the ball, allowing Murphy to score. Moquete moved to 2rd on a throwing error by Michael Bernal. Federico Castagnini then doubled in Moquete to give Aberdeen a 4-0 lead.

Aberdeen then blew the Cyclones in Top of the 4th. Riley Palmer led off with a double to right. Tad Gold singled to short, moving Palmer to 3rd. Jay Gonzalez singled to left, scoring Palmer and moving Gold to 2nd. Justin Viele grounded out, giving Aberdeen 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Casey Meisner intentionally walked Alex Murphy to load the bases. Hector Veloz then doubled to center scoring Gold & Gonzalez and moving Murphy to 3rd. That would be all for Meisner, as Juan Urbina came in to pitch. Jamill Moquete doubled, scoring Murphy & Veloz. Federico Castagnini grounded out to Urbina, who was almost injured on the play. Urbina then gave up a 2-out walk to Steve Wilkerson. Palmer then came up for the 2nd time in the inning and singled in Moquete & moving Wilkerson to 2nd. Urbina have up a wild pitch to make it 2nd & 3rd before walking Tad Gold & giving up another wild pitch, scoring Wilkerson. Urbina got out of the inning by getting Gonzalez to go down swinging, but the damage was more than done as Brooklyn gave up 7 runs and now trailed 11-0.

Aberdeen added more in the Top of the 5th. After a leadoff walk to Viele, Murphy doubled, giving Aberdeen 2nd & 3rd. Juan Urbina had no control, as he gave up his 3rd wild pitch of the night, scoring Viele and moving Murphy to 3rd. Veloz walked, followed by a ground out by Moquete, giving Aberdeen 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Castagnini reached on a fielding error by error prone 2B Anthony Chavez, moving Veloz to 3rd. Wilkerson then flew out to right for out #2. Palmer then hit a triple that hit off the top of the RF wall, scoring Veloz & Castagnini. Urbina then walked Gold & Gonzalez. That would be all for Urbina as Mike Hepple was brought in. Hepple walked Viele, scoring Palmer. Hepple got out of the inning by getting Murphy to fly out to Tharp

Brooklyn finally showed some signs of life in the Bottom of the 5th With Nik Nowottnick in to pitch, Diehl singled to center. Nido flew out, then Adrian Abreu drew a walk. Will Fulmer came in to hit for Chavez and drew a walk to load the bases. Tharp went down swinging. Dimas Ponce hit for Amed Rosario and singled in Diehl. With bases loaded and 2 away, Jhoan Urena lined out to LF Tad Gold.

The Cyclones struck again in the Bottom of the 6th. Michael Katz led off with a double. Michael Bernal went down looking before Diehl doubled in Katz. Luis Arrizurieta, who came in for Nido lined out to right, followed by Adrian Abreu grounding into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Aberdeen added more in the Top of the 7th. Palmer led off with a double, Gold reached on an error by Urena & Gonzalez struck out swinging. Viele then doubled to right, scoring Palmer. Brandon Coluccio hit for Alex Murphy, grounding out to short, but scoring Gold. Tanner Murphy grounded out to end the inning.

The Cyclones struck out 12 times tonight, bringing the team total to 204 on the season, an NYPL high. The team committed 5 errors, gave up 3 wild pitches & a passed ball.

Brooklyn falls to 11-9 on the season. They have lost 5 straight.
