Game 1 resumed in the Top of the 2nd & Octavio used 4 pitches to get out of a jam he got into last Wednesday.

Brooklyn took the lead in the Bottom of the 4th, thanks to a 2-run shot by Jhoan Urena, scoring Tomas Nido. Brooklyn added another 2 in the Bottom of the 5th. Jeff Diehl led off with a singled, but was forced out on a fielder’s choice by Will Fulmer. Dimas Ponce was hit by pitch and had to leave the game. Joe Tuschak went down swinging, but Fulmer and Rosario moved up on the Wild Pitch by Nolan Gannon. Nido singled to center, scoring Fulmer & Rosario scores. Urena grounded out to end the inning.

Hudson Valley took the lead and kept it, scoring in each of the remaining innings to win 8-4.

Brooklyn showed more signs of life in Game 2.

The game remained scoreless until the Top of the 3rd. With Corey Oswalt on the mound, Alec Sole reached on an error by Jeff Diehl. Chris Talley walked, moving Sole to 2nd. Braxton Lee grounded out to Rosario, moving the runners up. Coty Blanchard grounded out to 1st, allowing Sole to score. Casey Gillaspie struck out swinging to end the inning.

The Renegades added another in the Top of the 4th, Hunter Lockwood & Leopoldo Correa led off with back to back singles, giving the Gades 1st & 2nd. Bralin Jackson reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Douglas Duran struck out swinging for out #1. Alec Sole hit the ball to Tucker Tharp, who dropped the ball on the transition for the throw, allowing Lockwood to score the 2nd run for Hudson Valley, but Sole was out. Chris Talley grounded out to Amed Rosario to end the inning.

Brooklyn got all the runs needed in the Bottom of the 5th. Luis Arrizurieta led off with a walk. Joe Tuschak moved him to 2nd out on a sacrifice bunt. Tharp singled and moved to 2nd on a throw, making it 2nd & 3rd. Rosario drew a walk & the bases were loaded. Urena went down swinging, but Mike Katz hit a ball down the right field line that cleared the bases and gave Brooklyn a 3-2 lead.

Shane Bay came in for the Top of the 7th & got the save, even though Braxton Lee fouled off numerous pitches.

NOTES:

  • Dimas Ponce got hit in the wrist by a pitch and left Game 1. Amed Rosario (who was injured when the game began last week) pinch ran & took over at short.
  • Katz game winning hit in the 5th inning of game 2 was never labeled a hit or error on the MCU Park scoreboard.
  • During Game 2, a Beach Bum got hit in the arm with a bat when it flew out of a players hands. She is fine.
