qmeme_1406209731255_409The Cyclones& Ironbirds finished their season series with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, losing a tough one 5-2 following a massive rain delay.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st. Adrian Abreu led off the game with a walk. Amed Rosario singled to center, moving Abreu to 2nd. Jhoan Urena singled to left, scoring Abreu. Michael Conforto went down looking & Michael Katz flew out to left.

Aberdeen quickly struck back in the Bottom of the 1st off starter Casey Meisner. Jay Gonzalez bunted back to Meisner. Meisner overthrew 1st & the ball went into right, so Gonzalez ended up at 3rd. Justin Viele reaches on an error by Rosario, scoring Gonzalez. Austin Anderson hit a ground-rule double to center to make it 2nd & 3rd. Alex Murphy singled to left, scoring Viele and moving Anderson to 3rd. Hector Veloz went down looking. Riley Palmer singled on a bunt, scoring Anderson. Meisner got out of the inning by getting Tanner Murphy & Jamill Moquete to fly out to LF Michael Conforto.

As soon as the out was made, the umps cleared the field as it got very cloudy. Grounds crew put the tarp on the field. After over 2 hours of rain, the game resumed around 9:45.

Brooklyn managed to cut down the lead in the Top of the 3rd. With Max Schuh on the mound for the Ironbirds, Rosario hit a one out triple. Urena grounded out, but scored Rosario. Conforto hit his 3rd double of the season, but would not score.

With Ironbirds up 3-2, Aberdeen would add another in the Bottom of the 4th off Mike Hepple who came in after the delay. Moquete reached on an error and scored 2 batters later on Oswill Lartiguez’s 1st triple of the season. Oswill Lartiguez got another double in the Bottom of the 7th off Brad Wieck. He scored on a ground out by Justin Viele to make it 5-2.

The Cyclones were held to 3 hits the last 6 innings, which led to their 2nd straight loss to Aberdeen and dropped them to 18-21 on the season. They are now 3 games behind Staten Island for the Wild Card lead. The Cyclones and Ironbirds are finished playing each other for the season, with the Cyclones going 6-4 against Aberdeen. The Cyclones are back in Brooklyn tonight taking on the Vermont Lake Monsters in a 3 game set.
