qmeme_1435156823731_951Just 24 hours after blowing out the ValleyCats, the Cyclones were on the receiving end of a blowout at MCU Park last night.

Tri-City made their dent in the Top of the 1st when Johnny Sewald, brother of former Cyclones Pitcher Paul Sewald, led off the game with a walk. Drew Ferguson reached on an error by Cyclones starting pitcher Kevin Canelon, sending Sewald to 2nd. Anthony Hermelyn singled to load the bases & Trent Woodward grounded out, scoring Sewald & moving Ferguson & Hermelyn up a base each. Bryan Muniz doubled to right, scoring Ferguson & Hermelyn to make it 3-0. Canelon got out of the inning by getting Cesar Carrasco & Kolbey Carpenter to both ground out.

The Cyclones did strike back in the Bottom of the 1st off ValleyCats starter Scott Weathersby. Vinny Siena hit a 1-out single to left and Michael Bernal hit his 2nd homer of the year to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

The ValleyCats widened their lead in the Top of the 3rd Hermelyn led off with a walk and back-to-back singles by Woodward & Muniz loaded the bases. Carrasco singled to center, scoring Hermelyn to make it 4-2. Carpenter singled to left scoring Woodward, but a throw from Tucker Tharp nailed Muniz at the plate. That also knocked Canelon out of the game for Gaither Bumgardner, who gave up a single to Alexander Melendez to make it 6-2 game before getting out of the inning.

The ValleyCats added another in the Top of the 4th thanks to a home run by Trent Woodward.

The Cyclones added 1 in the Bottom of the 4th, when Zach Mathieu scored on a single by Pedro Perez. The bottom of the 5th saw Tharp score on a sacrifice fly by Michael Katz to make it 8-4.

The ValleyCats widened their lead to 5 when Cesar Carrasco homered in the Top of the 6th.

Tri-City made it a blowout in the Top of the 9th. With Ruben Reyes on the mound, Hermelyn drew a 2-out walk. Woodward singled to make it 1st & 2nd. Muniz singled to score Hermelyn and move Woodward to 2nd. Carrasco doubled to score Woodward and move Muniz to 3rd. A wild pitch by Reyes allowed Muniz to score and send Carrasco to 3rd. Reyes got out of it by getting Carpenter to fly out.

The Cyclones fall to 3-2 on the season, 1 game behind Hudson Valley. The Cyclones look to win the rubber game at MCU Park tonight at 7pm. It’s CUNY Night & Saved by the Bell Night with $10 tickets available. The 1st 2,500 fans through the gates of MCU Park get a free t-shirt courtesy of CUNY.
