qmeme_1436056701000_384On a day that featured a new hot dog eating champion, hundreds of beachgoers and spectacular fireworks,  there was baseball at 1904 Surf Avenue, as the leaders of the McNamara & Pickney divisions were facing off in what was sure to be a great game.

After three and a half scoreless frames, the Cyclones got on the scoreboard in the Bottom of the 4th. Vinny Siena hit a 2-out single to left. Siena went to 2nd on a balk by Crosscutters starter Jose Taveras. David Thompson & Jeff Diehl both walked to load the bases. A wild pitch by Taveras let Siena score and moved Thompson & Diehl up. Zach Mathieu went down looking to end the inning with the Cyclones up 1-0.

The Cyclones added another in the Bottom of the 8th off Robert Tasin when Brandon Brosher led off with a homer, his 1st as a Cyclone.

Matt BlackhamMatt Blackham, who took the hill for Brooklyn was lights out, as he threw 7 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits and a walk while striking out 9 to get his 2nd win of the season. PJ Conlon threw a shutout inning to get his 2nd Hold of the year and Carlos Valdez earned his 1st save by throwing a shutout 9th to give Brooklyn their 10th win of the season after just 2:12 of play, sending the crowd of 5,405 home with a win.

RHP Jose Celas (0-1, 1.35) will face off against RHP Mitch Gueller (2-0, 2.25) at 5pm. Gates open at 3:15 for season ticket holders and 3:30 for everyone else.
