The Cyclones continued to play like garbage, as one of baseball’s worst offensive teams, led by a questionable hitting coach and built ONE left handed bat who didn’t play, managed only 1 run on two hits.
The Renegades loaded the bases in the Bottom of the 1st off starter Gaby Almonte but failed to score. After 2 scoreless games, the Cyclones would get their only run on the night in the Top of the 5th when Manuel Hilario tripled to right and scored a batter later on a wild pitch.
The lead was quickly coughed up by Almonte in the Bottom of the 5th. Jose Paez reached on an infield hit. Danny De La Calle singled to center, sending Paez to 3rd. Jake Cronenworth went down swinging. A wild pitch by Almonte sent De La Calle to 2nd. Michael Russell doubled to left, scoring Paez & De La Calle. With McCarthy up, a balk was called that sent Russell to 3rd before McCarthy looked at strike 3. Hector Montes doubled to left, scoring Russell, which led to Gaby Almonte being ejected by home plate umpire Matt Scott. Ruben Reyes came in to pitch and walked Matt Dacey before striking out Angel Moreno.
The Gades added another when Paez hit a 1-out single in the Hudson Valley Bottom of the 6th then stole 2nd. De La Calle singled to center but got caught trying to stretch it, but he scored Paez.
Johnny Magliozzi came in to pitch the Bottom of the 7th. Russell led off with a walk and McCarthy singled him to 2nd. Montes doubled to right, scoring Russell & McCarthy. A wild pitch sent Montes to 3rd and a ground out scored him to make it 7-1.
The score would stay that way, as the Cyclones were dealt their 5th straight loss. They struck out 11 times, bringing the season total to an awful 459, though not as bad as Lowell’s 468
The Cyclones will play the Renegades in Brooklyn tomorrow before the All Star Break.
