qmeme_1440510478138_608With the team 4 games back and beginning a week of divisional games, the Cyclones dropped a big one vs Hudson Valley last night, as some bad managing, injuries and bad fielding led to the Cyclones moving to 4 games out of 1st.

After 5 innings of shutout baseball, the Renegades would get on the scoreboard in the Top of the 6th using some small ball. Jake Cronenworth led off with a single to left. Oscar Sanay lay down a sacrifice bunt that moved Cronenworth to 2nd. Joe McCarthy grounded out, advancing Cronenworth to 3rd. Manny Sanchez reached on an infield single that scored Cronenworth to make it 1-0. Sanchez stole 2nd & Matt Dacey walked, but Badamo got out of the jam by getting Hector Montes to ground out.

Cristopher Crisostomo took the hill for Hudson Valley, replaces Michael Velasquez in the Bottom of the 6th. Jeff Diehl reached on an infield hit with one out. Zach Mathieu singled to right, moving Diehl to 2nd. A balk by Crisostomo made it 2nd & 3rd. Brandon Brosher struck out swinging, but the ball went past the catcher, sending Diehl in to tie the game, moving Mathieu to 3rd and allowing Brosher to make it to 1st. Hengelbert Rojas walked to load the bases. Enmanuel Zabala hit a sacrifice fly to RF Manny Sanchez, scoring Mathieu and moving Brosher to 3rd. The inning ended when Pedro Perez grounded out, but the Cyclones had a 2-1 lead.

Tom Gamboa summoned in Nicco Blank to pitch the Top of the 7th, despite the fact Badamo had only thrown 81 pitches with 1 run given up. Alex Schmidt hit a 1-out single to left. Taylor Hawkins doubled to center, tying the game. Cronenworth singled just past Siena, sending Hawkins to 3rd. Gades Manager had Croenworth steal 2nd to break up a double play and move a runner up, something Gamboa needs to do more often. Sanay singled to right scoring Hawkins. Diehl fired it in and the home plate ump originally called Cronenworth out at home, except Brosher didn’t have the ball, allowing Cronenworth to score. When Brosher got the ball, he managed to throw Sanay out as he ran to 3rd. McCarthy grounded out to end the inning with Hudson Valley up 4-2.

The game stayed that way. In the Bottom of the 9th, reliever Brandon Koch struck out the 1st two. He also struck out PH Jose Garcia, but the wild pitch on strike 3 allowed Garcia to reach 1st. Alfredo Reyes hit a ground-rule double to left, moving Garcia to 3rd. They would stay there, as Branden Kaupe grounded out to end the game.
