scott fullThe New York Mets have named Dick Scott as Bench Coach to fill the void left by Bob Geren.

Scott joined the Mets in 2011. He served as Minor League Field Coordinator in 2011 & 2012 and has been serving as Minor League Field Director since 2013, overseeing the Mets 9 minor league affiliates. Prior to joining the Mets, Scott was the Houston Astros’ Minor League Field Coordinator in 2010 and served as the Toronto Blue Jays’ Director of Player Development from 2001-09.

A career minor leaguer, Scott appeared in 3 Major League Games with the Oakland A’s, but never got a hit.

Scott hired a number of Cyclones coaches, including Managers Rich Donnelly and Tom Gamboa, in addition to Pitching Coaches Tom Signore and Dave LaRoche.

CoachesScott was picked over a list of candidates that included 3 former Brooklyn Cyclones Managers.

Mets 3B Coach Tim Teufel, who managed the Cyclones in 2003, was considered a top candidate, as he has been with the organization for years as a coach and manager.

Another possibility was Wally Backman, who is currently the Manager of the Las Vegas 51s. Backman has been with the Mets since 2010, making stops in Brooklyn, when he managed the 2010 Cyclones to the NYPL Finals, as well as Binghamton, before becoming the AAA Manager in both Buffalo and Las Vegas.

Pedro Lopez, who has been the Manager of the Binghamton Mets, was also considered for the bench coach job. Lopez managed the Cyclones in 2009 and has moved all the way up to Binghamton, where he managed the B-Mets to the 2014 Eastern League Championship.
