Brooklyn Baseball Banter has been informed that Yunir Garcia, who served as the Brooklyn Cyclones Hitting Coach during the 2015 season, has been reassigned by the New York Mets.
For the 2016 season, Garcia will serve as the Hitting Coach for the GCL Mets, a role he previously held in 2011.
This move comes following an abysmal offensive season by the Brooklyn Cyclones, as the team produced a multitude of sub-.200 hitters and no .300 hitters. The entire team hit .221 on the season, finishing last in the New York – Penn League and 158th out of 160 MiLB teams.
The Cyclones only collected 542 hits, a franchise low. They led the NYPL with 684 strikeouts.
Garcia played with the Mets for 8 years, making it as high as AAA in 2006. He appeared in 37 games with the Cyclones in 2003 & 10 games in 2004.
Following his career, he has been a Mets Minor League Hitting Coach at various levels. From 2012 through 2014, Garcia was the Hitting Coach for the Kingsport Mets. He was the Hitting Coach for the DSL Mets in 2010 & VSL Mets in 2008 & 2009.
