The Brooklyn Cyclones have announced the coaching staff assigned by the New York Mets for the 2016 season.
As reported by Brooklyn Baseball Banter, Tom Gamboa will return as Manager, Edgardo Alfonzo is back as Bench Coach & Sean Ratliff is the new Hitting Coach, as Yunir Garcia has been assigned to the GCL Mets.
Joe Lego also returns for his 3rd season as the Strength & Conditioning Coach.
The newcomers to the MCU Park dugout are Pitching Coach Billy Bryk Jr. & Athletic Trainer Gavin Grosh.
Bryk Jr., who becomes the 9th Pitching Coach in Brooklyn Cyclones history, is in his 1st season with the New York Mets. Bryk replaces Dave LaRoche, who retired after last season. LaRoche filled in for Tom Signore last season, as Signore was recovering from a concussion. Signore’s contact was not renewed by the Mets.
Despite his young age of 31, Bryk has quite the coaching resume. Bryk began his coaching career as the Bullpen Coach for the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League in 2007. In 2008, he joined the Edmonton Cracker-Cats of the Golden Baseball League, where he served as Pitching Coach. In 2009 & 2010 seasons, he worked as the Pitching Coach for the Windy City ThunderBolts, a member of the Frontier League. In 2011, he was the Pitching Coach for the Amarillo Sox of the American Association. Bryk joined the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association in 2012. In 2013 & 2014, he served as a special assignment scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks, where his father works in the baseball operations department. In 2015, he served as the pitching coach Frontier Grey, of the independent Frontier League.
Bryk was orginally hired by the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League on January 19th, 2016 to serve as a Coach this season before being offered a job with the Mets.
Gavin Grosh is beginning his 5th season with the New York Mets as an Athletic Trainer. He spent the last season with the Kingsport Mets. In 2014, he worked with the GCL Mets. In 2012 & 2013, Grosh was the Head Trainer for the DSL Mets 1 & 2.
