Nick Weisberg

Despite the fact that we normally find more loyal & qualified fans, Nick Weisberg, 22, is a longtime Cyclones fan who is this week’s Brooklyn Baseball Banter’s Fan of the Week.

Described by many as a “bum,” Nick hails from the Flatlands neighborhood of Brooklyn and is currently a Cyclones Mini Plan Holder. His seats are in Section 16 with his good friends, Daniel Weiss, Dmitry Kristal, Rob Oliveri, Rob Weiner and Mike McNicholas.

Nick became a fan of the Cyclones in 2001, even though he is suffering from a horrible, incurable disease of being a fan of the New York Yankees. He became a fan of the Brooklyn Cyclones instead of the Staten Island Yankees, because, like many others, he was very excited about professional baseball returning to Brooklyn.

Like so many other fans who have been Fan of the Week, Nick does not remember much from his first Brooklyn Cyclones game, but he does remember seeing them win and getting hooked on Cyclones baseball.

During games, Nick likes to have a lot of fun with his friends. He is always eager to join in chants of “Lets Go Cyclones!” & “HEEEEE! STRUCK HIM OUT!” When it’s time to “Hoist Da Colors!” Nick is always eager to hold up a Cyclones banner or flag. He always has fun ragging on Mike McNicholas by calling him “Mikey Mittens,” like so many others in Section 16.

Mookie Wilson is Nick’s favorite Brooklyn Cyclones manager to date. His favorite players to date have been Angel Pagan, Darrel Cecilliani, Michael Conforto & Michael Katz. His favorite giveaway so far was the New York Jets style football jersey. His favorite food at MCU Park are the ICEYs Italian Ices sold by Timmy Grins. He also enjoys getting a good beer or two while watching the game.

Nick’s favorite memory at MCU Park took place on August 26th, 2010. The Cyclones were down 3-1 in the Middle of the 8th against the Aberdeen Ironbirds. The put up a run in the Bottom of the 8th when an error scored Cory Vaughn. In the Bottom of the 9th, Will Cherry led off the inning with a homer to tie it up at 3 apiece. An inning later, Darrell Ceciliani came up and knocked the ball right over the right-center field wall to give Brooklyn a 4-3 win on a Jersday Thursday.

Nick likes to see the Cyclones on the road, particularly in Staten Island. He hopes to get to some games in Hudson Valley. He also plans on going to some other ballparks in the area.

Nick worked for WKRB during the 2013 & 2014 seasons, as the board operator, creating a friendship with Broadcasters David Greenwald and Stu Johnson.

About Daniel S. Weiss

I have been an avid Cyclones fan since 2001. In December of 2013 I decided to launch my own blog "Brooklyn Baseball Banter" to cover the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Well, he was a Mets fan from 1998 until 2012. Just look at his past Facebook photos.
