qmeme_1466694243004_264The Cyclones road woes continued, as they lost the series opener to the Connecticut Tigers last night 7-5, despite a 9th innings rally.

With Gabriel Llanes on the hill for the Cyclones, the Tigers got on the scoreboard in the Bottom of the 1st, courtesy of a Blaise Salter homers that also scored Joey Havrilak. The Tigers got loaded the bases on 3 straight singled in the Bottom of the 2nd, and scored a run on a Keaton Jones ground out to make it 3-0.

The Tigers blew it open in the Bottom of the 3rd. Joey Havrilak led off with a single to right. Blaise Salter popped out. Havrilak stole 2nd, and Tanner Donnels walked. Cole Bauml doubled to left, scoring Havrilak and moving Donnels to 3rd. Mario Sanjur doubled to left, scoring Donnels & Bauml to make it 6-0. Llanes got Junnell Ledezma to fly out for Out #2. Keaton Jones reached on an infield single that sent Sanjur to 3rd, but Llanes got Victor Padron to ground out to end the inning.

The Cyclones finally got a runner to cross home plate in the Top of the 4th. With Ryan Castellanos working the 4th inning of his start, Colby Woodmansee reached on an error and a double by Jay Jabs scored him.

Brooklyn added another in the Top of the 6th. Nick Sergakis was hit by pitch and a walk to Woodmansee moved Sergakis to 2nd. Jay Jabs flew out to left, but moved the runners up a base. Jacob Zanon hit a sac fly to left that scored Sergakis to make it 6-2. Dan Rizzie grounded out to end the inning.

Connecticut got the run back in the Bottom of the 6th. With Alejandro Castro in to pitch, Jones led off with a single. Padron grounded into a force out, but a double by Josh Lester made it 2nd & 3rd. Havrilak lined out to 2nd, but Salter singled in Padron and Lester was nabbed at the plate to end the inning.

The Cyclones once again threatened in the Top of the 9th by scoring runs, but the comeback fell short. With Yordy Cabrera in to pitch, Jacob Zanon hit a 1-out homer to left to make it 7-3. Rizzie reach on an infield hit and a passed ball sent him to 2nd. Hengelbert Rojas went down looking, but a single by Dionis Paulino moved Rizzie to 3rd. Dale Burdick reached on an error that scored Rizzie and sent Paulino to 2nd. Gene Cone reached on an error that scored Paulino and moved Burdick to 2nd. With the score now 7-5, Nick Sergakis grounded out to end it, giving Brooklyn another loss on the season. They now fall to 2-4 overall and are winless on the road.


The Cyclones and Tigers are back in action tonight. RHP Harol Gonzalez (0-0, 1.80) will face off against RHP Alfred Gutierrez (0-0, 8.31). 1st pitch at Dodd Stadium in Norwich is at 7:05 PM.
