qmeme_1467346299538_407The Cyclones continued to struggle with pitching, as they blew a 3-1 lead and lost 10-4, dropping the rubber game of the series and falling to 6-8 on the 2016 season.

State College got things rolling in the Bottom of the 1st. With Joel Huertas on the mound, Dylan Tice & Vincent Jackson hit 1-out singles to make it 1st & 2nd. Ryan McCarvel singled to center, scoring Tice and sending Jackson to 2nd. Bladimil Franco grounded into a force out nailing Jackson out at 3rd and sending McCarvel to 2nd. Josh Swirchak grounded into a force out to end the inning with State College up 1-0.

The Cyclones managed to get on the scoreboard in the Top of the 4th off Spikes starter Ronnie Williams. Gene Cone led off with a single to center and Nick Sergakis drew a walk. Blake Tiberi flew out to left, but Colby Woodmansee singled to left, scoring Cone and sending Sergakis to 3rd, with Woodmansee taking 2nd on the throw. Brandon Brosher singled to left, scoring Sergakis and moving Woodmansee to 3rd. Dan Rizzie popped out, but Arnaldo Berrios singled to right, scoring Woodmansee and moving Brosher to 2nd. Darryl Knight flew out to end the inning with Brooklyn up 3-1.

The Spikes retook the lead in the Bottom of the 5th, as Jose Martinez led off with a single to center. Tice single to center as well to score Martinez, and a Gene Cone error sent Tice to 3rd. Huertas struck out Jackson but a triple by McCarvel scored Tice and a double by Franco scored McCarvel. Huertas got Swirchak to pop out, but Elier Rodriguez singled to right, scoring Franco. Danny Hudzina lined out to end the inning, but State College now led 5-3.

State College added more in the Bottom of the 6th. Due to the bullpen depletion from Wednesday, Huertas remained in. He gave up a leadoff walk to Chris Rivera, but a ground out by Martinez got Rivera at 2nd. Tice singled to left, moving Martinez to 2nd. Jackson reached on an infield hit that was also misplayed by Darryl Knight, scoring Martinez and moving Tice to 3rd. Cyclones Manager Tom Gamboa summoned Nabil Crismatt to pitch. McCarvel doubled to center, scoring Tice & Jackson. Franco grounded out, moving McCarvel to 3rd. Crismatt got Swirchak to fly out to end the inning with the score 8-3 in favor of State College.

The Cyclones bleeding continued in the Bottom of the 7th, as Rodriguez led off with a double to right. Hudzina grounded out, keeping Rodriguez at 2nd. A wild pitch by Crismatt sent Rodriguez to 3rd. Rivera grounded out, scoring Rodriguez. Martinez flew out to end the inning. The Spikes added another in the Bottom of the 8th, as McCarvel hit a 2-out homer to left to make it 10-3

After 8 innings of work, Ronnie Williams was pulled for Jordan DeLorenzo. Brosher led off the Top of the 9th with a walk and stole 2nd. Rizzie popped out, but a Berrios single scored Brosher. Knight struck out, and a Hengelbert Rojas singled moved Berrios to 3rd. However, DeLorenzo struck out Cone to end the game.

The Cyclones return to MCU Park tonight to begin a 3-game set with the Connecticut Tigers. The team will be giving our BBQ Aprons to the 1st, 2,000 fans to enter MCU Park. The gates will open at 5:15 PM for Season Ticket Holders and 5:30 PM for everyone else.

RHP Erik Manoah (1-0, 2.45) gets the start for Brooklyn and LHP Austin Sodders (0-1, 7.71) starts for the Tigers.
