qmeme_1468463640123_768The Brooklyn Cyclones collected their 1st sweep as of the season, as they beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds 6-2. The game featured the debut of Michael Paez, the 1st homer for Peter Alonso, and a great game from Jacob Zanon.

Travis Seabrooke took the mound for Aberdeen. Paez led off the game in his Brooklyn Cyclones debut by drawing a walk. Nick Sergakis reached on an error by 3B Collin Woody, moving Paez to 2nd. Zanon hit into a 4-3 double play, but moved Paez to 3rd. Alonso hit his first professional homer to give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead. Ali Sanchez grounded out to end the inning.

Gabriel Llanes got the start for Brooklyn, and after two scoreless innings, ran into trouble in the Bottom of the 3rd. Stuart Levy & Ronarsy Ledesma began the innings with singles to make it 1st & 3rd. Collin Woody grounded into a force out, scoring Levy, nailing Ledesma at 2nd and sending Woody to 1st. Cole Billingsley singled to right, moving Woody to 3rd. With Chris Clare up, Cole Billingsley was caught stealing 2nd, but Woody scored on the throw to tie it. Llanes struck out Clare to end the inning.

Brooklyn would bounce back in the Top of the 4th, as Zanon led off the inning with a homer to left. Alonso grounded out, but a double by Sanchez and a walk to Tiberi, the Cyclones had two men on. After a strikeout by Arnaldo Berrios, Jay Jabs singled to center, scoring Sanchez. A fielding error by CF Ryan McKenna made it 2nd & 3rd. Darryl Knight flew out to end the inning with Brooklyn up 4-2.

Andrew Elliott came in to pitch the Top of the 5th, and had no luck. Sergakis hit a 1-out single to left, but was picked off. Zanon drew a walk and stole 2nd & 3rd, to bring his steal total up to 9. Alonso reached on an infield single, scoring Zanon. Sanchez flew out to end the inning.

The Cyclones would remove the save situation in the Top of the 7th. Paez hit a 1-out single to left. Sergakis flew out, but a double by Zanon scored Paez. That knocked Elliott out of the game for Will Shepley. Shepley got Alonso to ground into a fielder’s to end the inning.

After 7 strong innings from Llanes, Austin McGeorge came in and pitched a scoreless Bottom of the 8th. Gary Cornish came in to pitch the Bottom of the 9th for Brooklyn and helped the Cyclones sweep the Ironbirds. However, a win by Hudson Valley kept them tied, but they picked up a game on Staten Island.

The Cyclonesreturn to MCU Park Thursday for a 3-game set with the Lowell Spinners. It is the 1st Jersday Thursday of 2016, so the 1st 2,500 fans into MCU Park will get a free Brooklyn Bridge Jersey. The game will air on SNY, with the pre-game show at 6:30 PM.
