qmeme_1468889179684_390The Brooklyn Cyclones lost the series opener to the Hudson Valley Renegades, as the team was held to just 2 hits and lost their 4th game in a row.

Peter Alonso began the Top of the 2nd against Renegades starter Travis Ott by reaching on an error by 3B Jim Haley. After Woodmansee went down looking, Ali Sanchez grounded out, moving Alonso to 2nd. Jabs hit the ball to Haley, who again made a throwing error, which allowed Alonso to score. Jabs was thrown out trying to steal 2nd, ending the inning.

Cyclones Starter Joel Huertas was unable to maintain the lead, as Angel Perez led off the inning with a single. Jonathan Popadics grounded into a force outs, getting Perez at 2nd. Miles Mastrobuoni singled to left, sending Popadics to 3rd, but Mastrobuoni was nailed at 2nd trying to stretch it. Danny De La Calle drew a walk. Jose Rojas singled to left, scoring Popadics and moving De La Calle to 2nd. Bill Pujols double to left, scoring two runs. Huertas got Fraley to ground out to end the inning.

Blake Tiberi collected Brooklyn’s first hit of the Night in the Top of the 3rd, but was stranded there.

Huertas came out to pitch the Bottom of the 3rd. On his way out, Huertas hurt his knee. After being inspected by athletic trainer Gavin Grosh, Huertas was pulled from the game and Alejandro Castro came in to pitch and threw 2 shutout innings.

In the Top of the 5th, Tiberi collected Brooklyn’s 2nd and final hit of the game.

Austin McGeorge came in to pitch the Bottom of the 5th. He allowed men to reach 2nd & 3rd, but managed to get out of the inning without giving up a run. He pitched a scoreless Bottom of the 6th as well.

Justin Dunn came in to pitch the Bottom of the 7th and ran into trouble. De La Calle led off the inning with a double to right. C Ali Sanchez tried to throw out De La Calle, but a throwing error sent him to 3rd. Rojas singled to right, scoring De La Calle. Pujols singled, moving Rojas to 2nd. Dunn struck out Fraley & Whitley and got Haley to line out to end it.

The Cyclones failed to get another runner to base, and were handed their 4th straight loss.

The Cyclones return to action for an afternoon game, as they will take on the Renegades again. RHP Erik Manoah (2-1, 5.33) will face off against Adrian Navas (2-1, 1.96)
