The Cyclones ended their 6 game winning streak last night, but took the series from the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Justin Dunn got the start for the Brooklyn Cyclones and ran into trouble in the Bottom of the 1st, but errors were to blame. Luis Barrera led off the game with a bunt single, however, was thrown out trying to steal 2nd. Eli White doubled to left and Nate Mondou reached on an error 3B Jay Jabs, moving White to 3rd with Mondou going to 2nd. Miguel Mercedes grounded, scoring White and moving Mondou to 3rd. Nick Collins doubled to center, scoring Mondou. Eric Marinez singled to right, scoring Collins to make it 3-0. Luke Persico grounded out to end the inning.
Another error gave Vermont a run in the Bottom of the 2nd. Steven Pallares drew a 1-out walk and Barrera popped out for the 2nd out. White singled to left, moving Pallares to 2nd. Mondou reached on an error by SS Colby Woodmansee, scoring Pallares and moving White to 2nd. Dunn struck out Mercedes to end the inning. Dunn would pitch a scoreless Bottom of the 3rd and finished the game with 0 earned runs, dropping his ERA to 0.75.
Brooklyn would get a run in the Top of the 4th. Woodmansee led off with a single to left, and Pete Alonso flew out. Desmond Lindsay drew a walk, sending Woodmansee to 2nd. Gene Cone grounded out, make it 2nd & 3rd. A wild pitch by Vermont starter Ivan Andueza scoring Woodmansee and sent Lindsay to 3rd. Darryl Knight struck out to end the inning.
Nabil Crismatt came in to pitch the Bottom of the 4th and didn’t give up a run in his 4 innings of work.
Alejandro Castro came in to pitch the Bottom of the 8th. Persico drew a 1-out walk, Tyler Ramirez singled and Pallares walked to load the bases.
Barrera singled to right, scoring Persico. Cyclones Manager Tom Gamboa summoned in Dillon Becker to pitch. Becker walked White to score Ramirez. A wild pitch scored Pallares and made it 2nd & 3rd. Becker got Mondou to fly out before striking out Mercedes to end the inning.
The Cyclones bats were unable to produce and the team fell 7-1, ending their winning streak.
The Cyclones return to MCU Park today to take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds, as it is Wilmer Flores Bobblehead Day. It is also Harry Potter Night at MCU Park. Gates open at 2:15 PM for Season Ticket Holders and at 2:30 for everyone else. LHP Thomas Szapucki (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Cyclones.
