With the calendar now reading August, many fans have begun to wonder the status of the Brooklyn Bolts, a team in the Fall Experimental Football League that plays at MCU Park
The Bolts, who won both FXFL Championships based on Winning Percentage, were the only team in the FXFL to play all scheduled home games, with a game being rescheduled due to the New York Mets appearing in the 2015 World Series.
A source within the front office of the Brooklyn Cyclones, which operates the business end of the Bolts, provided this update to Brooklyn Baseball Banter about the status of the team.
“At this point, the front office staff has pretty much moved on from the Brooklyn Bolts. Nothing much has been said from the [Fall Experimental Football] League in the past few months. At this point, it looks like the team is ready to pull the plug on the Bolts.
The staff is focused on the ongoing Brooklyn Cyclones season and the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifier in late September. Should the FXFL find sufficient funding to continue play, the Bolts would more than likely return. The staff is prepared to start calling people and selling Brooklyn Bolts tickets.
Brooklyn Baseball Banter has reached out multiple times to the FXFL for comment, but has received no answer from the league, which has not updated their website, Facebook page, or Twitter account since January. The league fielded 3 teams last season, playing an uneven amount of games. The Mahoning Valley Bawlers, folded before the start of the 2015 season.
When Brooklyn Baseball Banter Editor in Chief Daniel S. Weiss made a trip to Dutchess Stadium last month, nobody from the Hudson Valley Renegades, which operate the Hudson Valley Fort, would officially comment on the future of the Fort or FXFL.
As mentioned in an old post few months ago, another source within the Brooklyn Cyclones had said “The team is considering selling off the game-used helmets & jerseys to fans.” The source later added “The idea of the jersey and helmet sale is on hold, just in case they somehow play in 2016.”
Another MCU Park staffer said “Fans should buy up Bolts gear from the store, because once we sell out on the gear, it is gone for good.”
