The Cyclones dropped the rubber game of the series to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers last night in an endless game that happened to be low scoring.
Erik Manoah got the start for Brooklyn and had some issues in the Top of the 1st. After getting Gabriel Mejia to ground out, Manoah issues two straight walks to Silento Sayles & Andrew Calica. Erlin Cerda popped out, but a single by Emmanuel Tapia loaded the bases. Manoah struck out Gavin Collins to end the inning.
He had more trouble in the Top of the 3rd. After strking out Mejia and Sayles to begin the inning, Calica was hit by pitch & Cerda and Tapia singled to load the bases. Manoah walked Collins to make it 1-0, but struck out Nate Winfrey to get out of the inning.
With one out in the Bottom of the 3rd, Gene cone singled to left and stole 2nd. Desmond Lindsay singled to center, scoring Cone to tie it up at 1-1. Colby Woodmansee singled to left, moving Lindsay to 2nd. However, Ali Sanchez lined into a double play, as SS Jorma Rodriguez caught the ball and threw to 2nd to double off Lindsay.
Jack Goihl led off the Top of the 4th with a triple to left, as Lindsay dove and missed the ball. Jorma Rodriguez hit the ball down the foul line and kept it fair, reaching first. A passed ball scored Goihl and moved Rodriguez to 2nd. Mejia lined, and Sayled grounded out, moving Rodriguez to 3rd. Calica smacked the ball and it hit the foul pole, giving him a homer and knocking Manoah out of the game. Dillon Becker came in and hit Erlin Cerda with the ball. He got out of it as C Ali Sanchez threw out Cerda trying to steal 2nd.
The Cyclones got runners to 2nd & 3rd in the Bottom of the 5th, but couldn’t drive them in. The Bottom of the 5th saw Ryan Colegate replace starter Juan Hillman. The Cyclones got two on, but left them on base.
Calica hit a two out triple in the Top of the 6th and Cerda walked to make it 1st & 3rd. Tapia singled to center, scoring Calica and moving Cerda to 3rd. Becker got Collins to fly out, ending the inning.
The Cyclones loaded the bases in the Bottom of the 6th, but the score did not change.
Adam Atkins came in to pitch the Top of the 7th. He walked Winfrey before striking out Goihl and Rodriguez to begin the inning. Mejia hit the ball back to Atkins and the bad throw by Atkins led Mejia reach and sent Winfrey to 3rd. Mejia stole 2nd, but Sayles fouled out to end the inning.
Gabriel Feliz came in and pitched a scoreless Top of the 8th for Brooklyn. However, the team had no pitchers available, so Franklin Correa, who pitched on Opening Night, was once again called on to pitch. To fill his spot at 2nd, Jay Jabs came in and knocked Luis Carpio out of the game. Correa struck out Collins, walked Winfrey, struck out Goihl and got Rodriguez to ground into a force out.
Henry Martinez came in to pitch the Bottom of the 9th and retired the Cyclones in order, giving Brooklyn the loss.
