Earlier this month, the New York Mets announced the firing of Mike Herbst. Herbest was serving as the the Mets Minor League Medical Coordinator down in St. Lucie, Florida, having previously served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the New York Mets.

With the firing of Herbst, the Mets also fired a few other employees. According to a source within the New York Mets organization, two members of the 2016 Brooklyn Cyclones coaching staff were given the axe as well, as Athletic Trainer Gavin Grosh and Strength & Conditioning Coach Joe Lego were both let go from the New York Mets organization today.

Gavin Grosh, 28, was in his 5th year with the New York Mets and had just finished his 1st season with the Brooklyn Cyclones. Grosh had served as the athletic trainer for the DSL Mets in 2012 & 2013, the GCL Mets in 2014 & the Kingsport Mets last season before coming up to Coney Island this season.

Joe Lego, 27, was in his 3rd season with the New York Mets and has been with the Brooklyn Cyclones during the past three seasons. The native of Newburgh, New York graduated from LIU – Brooklyn, where he interned as a strength coach with the baseball and softball teams. Joe’s graduation ceremony took place at MCU Park.
